Webb Awarded Baggage Handling Contract at LAX

Jervis B. Webb Company - a subsidiary of Daifuku Co., Ltd. and leading provider of innovative material handling solutions - today announced a contract with Hensel Phelps Construction Co., to design, manufacture, and install an automated in-line baggage handling system at (LAX) Terminal 6.

The system will feature five ticket counter conveyors and two curbside conveyors that will move bags through four CTX 9800 Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) machines.  This is the second baggage handling systems to integrate with the CTX 9800 machines.  Jervis B. Webb Company and Hensel Phelps Construction Co., also collaborated on the first system at San Jose International Airport (SJC).

The baggage handling system at LAX includes four new incline plate carousels in the outbound make-up area.  The project is expected to be completed in 2012.

“We look forward to working with Hensel Phelps to provide the high quality in-line baggage handling system that Webb has become known for,” said Kenneth Hamel, Webb’s Vice President of Airport Systems.  “After installing more than 50 systems around the world, Webb has positioned itself as an industry leader for airports looking to meet new security guidelines or upgrade their existing systems.”
